Games for 4 players on phones

A game for 4 players on phones: one band, four instruments

Each phone is an instrument. Nobody passes the phone around, nobody waits for a turn.

Most phone games for a group are one phone passed around, or four people each in their own world. Our Band Sucks is four phones, one song, at the same time: each player gets an instrument, the song starts on every phone at once, and everyone hears how the band sounds. Four is the band; it's the number the game was built around.

Nothing to install. The host opens the link, a 4-letter room code pops up, the other three type it in. From "who's got a phone?" to the first note in about thirty seconds.

Four players, four seats

  • Drums

Dots drop onto the kit; hit each drum the moment its dot lands. The seat for the one who taps the table anyway.

  • Guitar

Notes slide down three strings; swipe across them at the ring. Air guitar that counts.

  • Keys

Notes fall down the lanes; tap on the line, hold the long ones. For the one who had piano lessons.

  • Vocals

A ball hops from note to note; drag it to land on each one. No singing, which is a relief for everyone.

Four phones in, in thirty seconds

  1. 1

    One phone hosts

Open the link, tap Party. The room code appears on that phone.

  2. 2

    Three phones join

Type the 4-letter code, or tap the invite link the host shares. No download, no account.

  3. 3

    Everyone picks a seat

Drums, guitar, keys or vocals. Swap after every song if you like.

  4. 4

    Play

Pick a song and a difficulty each. The song starts on all four phones at once.

Three ways to run a game night

  • Classic

Everyone on their instrument, the whole song. Chase your own combo, then watch the band's highlight reel.

  • Idol

Four songs, a new instrument for each player every song, and the most points takes the crown. The competitive one.

  • Madness

Instruments switch mid-song for everyone. Chaos, by design.

Only two or three of you?

The band still plays. Empty seats can be filled with virtual bandmates who play their part and never complain. And one person can play Solo, with every song and instrument, which is a decent way to practise before the next game night.

Questions, answered badly

  • Do we need exactly four?

No. One to four. Fewer than four and virtual bandmates fill the empty seats.

  • Can a fifth person play?

Not in the same room: four is the band. A fifth can host a second room, or swap in after a song.

  • Do we all need the same kind of phone?

No. iPhone and Android, phones and tablets, mixed. It runs in the browser.

  • Do we need to be in the same room?

No. The code works from anywhere. It's funnier in the same room.

  • Is it free?

Yes. No account, no ads, nothing to install.

Your band sucks?
