Game night games to play on your phone
A plan for an evening with friends, four phones and zero setup.
A good game night needs three things: getting started takes seconds, everyone plays at once, and there's a reason to play one more. Our Band Sucks was built around that: open a link, share a code, and every phone is an instrument in a song that lasts about three minutes.
Here's how we'd run a night with it.
A band night in five songs
- 1
Warm-up (song 1)
Classic, Easy, everyone on the instrument they like. New players: the first song teaches itself.
- 2
Swap (songs 2 and 3)
Rotate instruments every song. The drummer goes to vocals, the singer to drums.
- 3
Chaos (song 4)
Madness: instruments switch mid-song for everyone. Expect yelling.
- 4
The final (song 5)
Pick the hardest song you dare, each on their best instrument. Lowest accuracy picks the snacks next time.
House rules that work
The reel decides
After each song, the highlight reel's worst miss gets to choose the next song.
Late arrivals
Friends who show up mid-song wait in the room and take the next free seat.
Uneven numbers
Two or three people? Virtual bandmates fill the empty seats.
More than four
Run two rooms side by side and compare scores, or swap players between songs.
What you need
A phone each (iPhone or Android, any modern browser), a decent Wi-Fi or mobile connection, and ideally headphones or a speaker per phone, since every phone plays the song. No TV, no console, no downloads, no accounts.
Questions, answered badly
How long is a round?
One song, about three minutes.
How many people?
Up to 4 per room; more people can run a second room.
Do we need to be musical?
No. Four difficulties per player, and nobody sings.
Is it free?
Yes. No ads, no account, no download.
